Getting under a strict 100KB ceiling
Use this target when the receiving form explicitly asks for a PDF no larger than 100KB. The file is processed in your browser: supported embedded images are re-encoded at lower JPEG quality, with smaller image dimensions tried when needed. A small budget leaves less room for scans and photographs, while existing text objects remain unchanged. Compare the resulting size with the form’s requirement and inspect scanned words before uploading; reaching the byte limit does not prove the document is readable.
Check the upload rule and the smallest text
- Confirm how the destination counts kilobytes. Here, 100KB means 102,400 bytes; a form using a 100,000-byte cap may still reject that result. The target can be changed before another attempt.
- A passing byte count is not a readability check. Enlarge scanned names, stamps and small print yourself: compression can blur those pixels even though actual text objects and vector drawing are retained.
- Not every PDF can reach this ceiling. Encoding attempts are limited, and protected documents or unsupported image encodings can leave little to reduce. Keep the original, especially when it has a digital signature: a rewritten copy will not retain a valid signature.
Questions about compressing a PDF to 100KB
What should I check before submitting the 100KB copy?
Compare the reported byte count with the receiving form’s rule, then open every page and inspect small writing. This page handles one PDF up to 60 MB locally, without uploading it for compression. Meeting the size limit does not verify that the document meets the form’s other requirements.
Why did my file not reach the 100KB target?
The supported quality and resolution settings, the number of pages, or content this tool cannot compress may keep the file over the limit. Check whether the receiving service allows a larger file or separate pages. A new scan with fewer unnecessary pixels may help, but do not remove required pages or details just to meet the cap.
Will the text in my PDF become blurry?
Existing text objects are not re-encoded. A scanned page, or text flattened into an image, can lose sharpness because its pixels are compressed. Enlarge small text, stamps and signatures in the output to check them yourself.
Does this tool remove my document metadata?
Only when the file is rewritten. The light cleanup removes Info fields and document-level XMP and application data; it does not clear page-level metadata or comment authorship like the dedicated remover. Files already within the target are returned unchanged.
What can stop this file from being compressed?
Encryption causes an unchanged return. Embedded JPEG 2000, indexed-colour, CMYK and explicitly masked images may be skipped. Re-encoded transparency is flattened to white, so check signatures or stamps placed over coloured backgrounds. A file already within the chosen cap is returned without any rewrite.
