How to convert WebP to PNG locally
Choose WebP files, drag them into the file area or select a folder, then click Convert to PNG. Your browser decodes each image and draws it onto a transparent canvas at its original pixel dimensions. The canvas writes a new PNG without a white background. Conversion runs in workers where supported; the fallback processes files one at a time and yields between files. Nothing is uploaded. Download one PNG directly, use an individual result’s button, or save several results together as a ZIP. The result shows the dimensions and byte size so you can check the output before using it elsewhere.
What changes when WebP becomes PNG
- Animated WebP exports only the first frame as a still PNG; playback and frame timing are not retained.
- PNG uses lossless compression, so the output is usually larger than WebP. This is a format converter, not a file-size reducer, and it cannot recover detail already lost in a lossy source.
- The output is a newly encoded image. Original metadata is not retained, and preservation of ICC profiles or HDR data is not guaranteed.
- The browser must be able to decode the WebP file. Damaged or unsupported files show an error instead of a downloadable result. Large decoded images consume device memory.
WebP to PNG converter questions
Does converting WebP to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. The canvas starts transparent and no white background is added. PNG keeps the decoded image’s alpha channel, including semi-transparent pixels, at the original pixel dimensions.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Decoding, PNG encoding and ZIP creation happen in your browser. No account is needed, and refreshing the page clears the files and results in this tab.
Can I convert several WebP files to PNG?
Yes. Select multiple files, drag them in or choose a folder. Click Convert to PNG, then download results individually or use Download all as ZIP. Failed files do not become PNG downloads.
Why is the PNG larger than the WebP?
PNG is a lossless format. WebP can use lossy or lossless compression and often stores the same image more compactly. PNG output is usually larger, although the actual size depends on the image.
What happens to an animated WebP?
Only its first frame is exported. This page produces a still PNG, not an animation, and does not retain playback timing.
