How the arbitrary KB reduction works

The custom field accepts targets from 1 to 10,240KB, alongside preset buttons. Each KB is counted as 1024 bytes. Sources above the chosen ceiling go through JPEG quality search and optional dimension reduction; a source already within it returns unchanged if it can be decoded.

Limits

Where this image KB reducer falls short

  • A target may be missed. The result panel reports the achieved bytes instead of certifying that every image fits.
  • You cannot prescribe exact width and height here. Turn off resolution reduction if those dimensions must stay unchanged.
  • Re-encoded files become JPEG on white. Unchanged files preserve the source format, transparency and metadata.

Questions about reducing images to arbitrary KB targets

How is a custom byte limit calculated?

Multiply the KB field by 1024. For example, 40KB is 40,960 bytes. If your destination gives a byte limit, choose a target no higher than that limit and check the achieved result.

What happens when I change the target after processing?

Run the tool again using the new target. Check the current field value and result status rather than relying on a previous run.

Will this strip my EXIF metadata?

Only re-encoded results omit the source EXIF. A source that already fits is unchanged, so this tool should not be your sole metadata-removal check.

Can I use one custom ceiling for a whole folder?

Yes. Add the files and click Compress all. Up to three jobs run concurrently, subject to hardware limits; each input may be up to 40MB. Review individual outcomes before downloading.
